There are many ways to fix a low-cut T-shirt using fabric. One way is to sew the cut. This can be done by hand or with a sewing machine. Another way is to apply a patch to the shirt. The patch can be cut into a square or rectangular shape and then stitched over the shirt. A third option is to cut other areas of the shirt to match the low-cut area. This will make the shirt look like it was intended to have a low-cut. Additionally, fabric glue can be used to fix a hole in a shirt that is not very visible.
Sew the cut
Sewing the cut is one of the ways to fix a low-cut T-shirt. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
Step 1: Prepare the T-shirt
Turn the T-shirt inside out and lay it on a flat surface. Hold it at the top of the shoulder seams and smooth it out flat. Place a pin along the neckline near each shoulder seam so that they stay lined up.
Step 2: Pin the new neckline
Pin a straight line from the corner of the shoulder seam to the neckline. The farther (or deeper) down the neckline you take this line, the more material you’ll be removing and the higher up you’ll be pulling the neckline. So, if the neckline is only a little lower than you want, this line should only go a short way down the neckline.
Step 3: Try on the T-shirt
Once you have your pins in place, try on the T-shirt, keeping it inside out, and being careful not to prick yourself. Make sure that you’ve placed the pins properly and that the neckline falls where you want. If necessary, unpin and repeat the previous steps.
Step 4: Sew along the line
Now it’s time to sew. You’ll be sewing along the line that runs from the neckline to the shoulder seam, keeping the shirt turned inside out. Start sewing at the neckline, using a standard straight stitch. Depending on the type of fabric you’re using, you might need to adjust your tension and length settings accordingly.
Step 5: Cut off the excess fabric
Once you’ve finished stitching, cut off the excess fabric. Make sure that you cut off the material above the stitch you just made.
Step 6: Try on the T-shirt again
Now, try on the T-shirt again and admire your handiwork. Your new top should now fit you more appropriately!
Tips:
- If you don't know how to sew, you can use magic stitching items. Apply the stitching and iron it onto the clothing.
- Match the thread to the T-shirt colour.
- If you make a mistake, you can use a seam-ripper to carefully remove the stitches and start over.

Apply a patch
If your T-shirt has a large hole, you can fix it by putting a patch over it. Here is how to apply a patch to your T-shirt:
Step 1: Find a fabric that matches your T-shirt
If your T-shirt is a solid colour, look for fabric in that colour. If your T-shirt has a busy print, look for fabric that will blend in with the print. If you have to choose between a darker and lighter shade of fabric, go with the darker shade. It will be less noticeable on your T-shirt.
Step 2: Cut out a patch of the fabric slightly larger than the hole
Try to make the patch around 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) greater than the hole on all sides. Measure the hole in your T-shirt with a ruler so you know how big a patch to cut out. Outline the patch on the fabric in pencil and cut it out with scissors.
Step 3: Cut out a piece of fusible bonding web the same size as the patch
A fusible bonding web is a thin, transparent adhesive sheet that will help the patch of fabric stick to the inside of your T-shirt. Place the patch of fabric you cut out over a sheet of fusible bonding web and trace the patch onto the bonding web with a pencil. Remove the patch of fabric and use scissors to cut out the shape you traced.
Step 4: Flip the T-shirt inside out and place the materials over the hole
Place the bonding web between the hole and the patch of fabric. Line it up over the hole over the T-shirt so it can’t be seen through. The side of the fabric you want to show through on the outside of your T-shirt should be facing down.
Step 5: Iron the patch of fabric and bonding web onto your T-shirt
Press the iron down onto the patch and bonding web and hold it in place. Don’t iron back and forth; this can cause the patch and bonding web to shift. Hold the iron on the patch and bonding web for around 10 seconds.
After ironing the patch and bonding web, turn your T-shirt right side out and the hole should be covered!

Cut other areas to match
If you've accidentally cut your t-shirt in the wrong place or taken too much off the neckline, you can fix this by cutting other areas of the t-shirt to match. This will make it look like the cut was intentional and part of the design.
To do this, place similar cuts over the shirt. You can cut the sleeves, the hem, or the neckline. You can also cut off the sleeves to make the t-shirt sleeveless. If you want to shorten the sleeves, cut along the sleeve's hem, removing the stitching along with the extra length.
If you want to modify the neckline, turn the t-shirt inside out and cut along the neckband, removing it. This will also remove the tag. You can also cut the neckband and tug the fabric so the edges curl under. If you want a deeper V-neck, cut another "slice of pie" off the back of the shirt.
If you want to shorten the t-shirt, press it so it is as smooth as possible and use straight pins to keep the front and back together. Then, use a ruler to draw dots with a tailor's pencil, chalk, or soap to mark how much you want to take off. Cut the t-shirt against a table or flat surface.
Remember not to cut off too much fabric, and always cut a little at a time.

Use a safety pin
If you want to fix a low-cut T-shirt using a safety pin, first put on the shirt and button it up. Hold the gaping area together with one hand. Then, take a safety pin and insert your other arm through the top of the shirt. Use the hand that's inside the shirt to push the pin through the inside of both shirt panels, then push it back through both panels. Finally, secure the safety pin on the inside of your shirt.
If the safety pin is noticeable, take it out and try inserting it again so that there's less pin visible. It's unlikely that people will spot it, but if you're concerned, you can also try using a smaller safety pin.
If you don't have a safety pin, you can use fashion tape, fabric glue, or brooches to fix a low-cut shirt. You can also try sewing on a snap or hook-and-eye closure, or adding a button or two inside the button panel.

Add a snap
If your t-shirt has a low-cut neckline that you want to fix, one option is to add a snap closure. This method is easy to do by hand with a needle and thread and won't change the appearance of your t-shirt. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Try on the t-shirt
Put on your t-shirt and hold together the fabric where you want the neckline to lie. Use a pencil to mark the front of the bottom fabric layer and the back of the top layer where they intersect. These marks indicate where you will sew the snap closures. If you don't have a pencil, you can use anything washable, such as a white eyeliner pencil.
Step 2: Prepare the snap set
Take off the t-shirt. Grab your snap set and separate the two sides of each snap. You will sew one side of each snap to the marks you made in Step 1. When sewing the snap onto the bottom layer of fabric, start threading from the backside so that the starting and ending points are tied off out of sight. For the top layer, sew through the backside of the fabric as well so that the knots are hidden.
Step 3: Sew the snaps
Sew around the holes in the snaps a couple of times with small stitches. If your t-shirt has multiple layers of fabric, such as a lining and a print, just sew through the lining so that the thread does not show on the front side. If your t-shirt has a folded edge, you can sew through it so that the front of the fabric remains seamless.
Step 4: Try on the t-shirt again
Put on the t-shirt and snap the closure. Now you should be able to keep your neckline closed without any unsightly buttons or threads showing!
Adding a snap closure is a simple way to adjust a low-cut t-shirt neckline. With this method, you can wear your favourite t-shirts with confidence and comfort.
