Metal Coat can be found in Chargestone Cave

The Metal Coat can be found in Chargestone Cave in Pokémon Black 2. Chargestone Cave is a large three-floor cave in Western Unova, connecting Route 6 to Mistralton City. After the Plasma Frigate, Cheren tells you to go to Route 6, where you will find the entrance to Chargestone Cave.

To reach the Metal Coat, you will need to navigate through the cave, pushing smaller floating stones towards bigger stagnant rocks to create pathways. Along the way, you will encounter various trainers and items. At the end of the first basement, you will find Hiker Jeremy, who has a level 32 Onix and a level 32 Boldore. After defeating him, continue south to find the Metal Coat.

To make the Metal Coat easier to obtain, you can use your Dowsing Machine to locate it. Additionally, there is a hidden Electric Gem further down the path, which can also be found using the Dowsing Machine.

After obtaining the Metal Coat, you can backtrack to the first basement and first floor to explore any areas you may have missed. The cave will eventually lead you to Mistralton City in the north.

Metal Coat is a Type Hold Item

Metal Coat is a type of hold item introduced in Generation II of the Pokémon series. It is a special metallic film that boosts the power of Steel-type moves by 20%. In Generations II and III, the Metal Coat increases power by 10%.

The Metal Coat also allows certain Pokémon to evolve when traded while holding the item. These Pokémon include Onix, which evolves into Steelix, and Scyther, which evolves into Scizor. This evolution consumes the Metal Coat.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, due to the absence of held items, the Metal Coat simply needs to be used on Onix or Scyther to trigger evolution.

In the spin-off games, such as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, the Metal Coat can be used to evolve Onix or Scyther into Steelix or Scizor, respectively, when offered with a Link Cable at Luminous Cave or Luminous Spring.

In Pokémon Conquest, Onix or Scyther can evolve by knocking out a Warrior's Pokémon while its own Warrior is equipped with a Metal Coat. The Metal Coat also increases the Attack of Steel-type Pokémon by one stage in this game.

In Pokémon GO, the Metal Coat was added on February 16, 2017, and is required for the evolution of Onix and Scyther into Steelix and Scizor, respectively.

Metal Coat can be found in Clay Tunnel

Clay Tunnel is a long cave in North Western Unova that can only be entered after defeating the Pokemon League. It connects Driftveil City, Mistralton Cave, and Twist Mountain. To fully explore the Clay Tunnel, you will need to have access to Pokemon that know Surf and Strength.

To get to the Metal Coat, enter Clay Tunnel from Driftveil City and head north. You will find the first trainer, Teppei, near some water. Continue north-east and you will see a worker who will offer to send you on a mine cart ride to the section of Clay Tunnel adjacent to Mistralton Cave. Take the mine cart to the next area.

From here, continue north past Worker Leo and pick up the Max Revive on the north side of the pond. Continue north past Worker Brand and defeat Pokemon Ranger Katie. If you head north from here, you will get to Twist Mountain. Instead, go east and jump into the next mine cart.

Take this mine cart to the next section of Clay Tunnel. You will be on the east side of the Twist Mountain portion of Clay Tunnel. Surf north and you will find a Metal Coat at a dead-end path in the southwest part of the chamber.

Metal Coat boosts the power of Steel-type moves

Metal Coat is a type-enhancing item in the Pokémon games. When held by a Pokémon, it boosts the power of Steel-type moves by 20%. Prior to Generation IV, Metal Coat and other type-enhancing items gave boosts of 10%.

In Pokémon Black 2, Metal Coat is described as a "special metallic film" that can be held by a Pokémon to boost the power of its Steel-type moves. This effect is consistent across the various generations of the games, including Black 2.

The Metal Coat item also has the unique ability to evolve certain Pokémon when they are traded while holding the item. Onix evolves into Steelix, and Scyther evolves into Scizor, when traded with a Metal Coat. This evolution mechanic adds a strategic layer to Pokémon training and encourages players to utilise Metal Coat for more than just its move-boosting properties.

In addition to its offensive capabilities, Steel-type Pokémon also excel defensively. They are the strongest type defensively, with 10 types being not very effective against them, and Poison-type attacks having no effect. The high average Defense stat of Steel-type Pokémon further bolsters their resilience in battle.

Metal Coat can be found in Black City

In Pokémon Black 2, the population of Black City increases as areas of Black Tower are completed. The appearance of the city changes with its population, with more large buildings and a bustling market at maximum occupancy, and fewer, smaller buildings at low occupancy. The Pokémon Center is present regardless of the population.

The market in Black City sells rare and expensive items, including Evolution stones and valuable items. The items available for purchase depend on the current residents of the city. It is important to note that the prices of items in the market are not affected by the Bargain Pass Powers.

To obtain a Metal Coat in Black City, players may need to complete certain tasks or defeat specific Trainers. The Metal Coat is likely to be found among the rare and valuable items sold in the market, or it could be a reward for completing a particular challenge or battling a certain number of Trainers.

Additionally, players can increase their chances of obtaining a Metal Coat by having one Pokémon fainted as the first thing in their party, as this raises the chance of wild Pokémon holding an item. Having a Pokémon with the ability Frisk and the move Covet, Thief, Trick, or Switcheroo in the second spot of the party is also advantageous.
